If you’re anything like me, you probably don’t know where to start when it comes to making time for yourself.
But taking a moment to understand what really makes you happy, can put things in perspective and get you geared up for an amazing self care Sunday!
Too often, we forget about our own happiness. We go to work, take care of others, and end up neglecting ourselves.
I remember always telling myself, “I need to start a self care routine”, but somehow could never find the time. Until I finally made the decision to prioritize myself and my happiness.
So before you decide what your best self care Sunday looks like to you, think of all the things that bring you joy.
What comes to mind? Your favorite food? A massage? Cuddling with your pet? (If you’ve read any of my other posts… then you’ll know one of mine is CHOCOLATE)!
Whatever it is that brings a smile to your face, be sure to incorporate it into your self care Sunday routine.
How Can You Prioritize Yourself & Your Happiness?

Be More Intentional
Make the decision to put yourself first. Forget telling yourself you’ll make time “soon” like I did. Know yourself and what makes you happy, then aim for it.
Intentionally work towards making self care Sunday a ritual for yourself, and make it a point to follow through with your decision.
Value Yourself & Your Time
Making time for yourself is extremely important – never downplay it. Taking the time to relax and enjoy doing the things you love, says a lot about what you think of yourself.
When you value yourself, it means you know how amazing you are. Having a self care Sunday is just a way of rewarding that, so take pride in it!
Give Yourself Credit
Remind yourself how much you do all week, whether it’s going to work, staying home to raise your kids, having a business or just dealing with life in general, you do A LOT.
So don’t ever feel guilty for having a self care Sunday, it’s your right!
You deserve to be happy. Carving out just one day a week to revel in that happiness is the least you can do for yourself.
Guard it With Your Life
A lot of things will try to get in the way of your self care Sunday….mainly you. Try your best not to reschedule time with yourself for others, unless it’s a pressing matter.
Guard this special time with everything you have, it’s one of the greatest things you can do for yourself.
How To Plan for the Best Self Care Sunday
Self care Sunday might be on a different day of the week for some of you. As long as you make time once a week for yourself, a whole day (if possible), then you’re on the right track!
Commit to one day a week and really stick to it, remember that hitting the reset button will benefit other areas in your life as well.

Make a list of the things you want to incorporate in your self care Sunday. Keep it simple until you’ve had a few of these and know exactly what makes the best self care Sunday for you.
Take an afternoon to gather what you will need, ( this is a pre- self care Sunday activity, because it’s so much fun!).
P.S. Knowing you have something to look forward to, also keeps you in a positive mindset all week!

Here are 15 Ideas for Your Best Self Care Sunday
1. Relax With a Good Book

There’s nothing better than getting lost in a book that transports you to another time or place.
Diverting your mind from everyday stress is what self care Sunday is all about. Pick one up at your local bookstore, browsing for a good book makes for a fun afternoon!
2. Give Your Plants Some Love

If you don’t already have some, I highly recommend getting a plant. The greenery makes the space around you more elegant which can contribute to your happiness.
In addition, plants have a soothing effect on us and can also improve the air we breathe.
So as part of your self care Sunday, give them some extra love, and keep them looking beautiful.
If you think you don’t have a green thumb and will just end up killing it, try some easy-to-care for plants.
The ZZ plant is one of my favorites and doesn’t require much maintenance.
3. Have a Spa Day at Home
Face masks, hand masks, foot masks, I love them all! Who says you can’t have a spa day in your own apartment?
Wash your face, get in a robe, put your masks on and lay down. I cannot begin to tell you what an amazing feeling this is, you have to try it!
I’m positive it’ll become part of your weekly self care Sunday!
4. Sit in a Cafe and Enjoy a Treat

Ok, this has to be one of my favorites on this list. Go to your favorite cafe, and indulge in a sweet treat.
Take the time to really savor this moment and the taste of this decadent dessert in your mouth.
Don’t rush through it, (I do sometimes, and usually end up getting another treat) this is your time to feel like you’ve died and gone to heaven!
5. Light a Candle
Lighting a great smelling candle in your home, has a way of making everything feel a bit cozier. This instantly gets me in relaxation mode and sets the mood for a lovely self care Sunday.
6. Enjoy a Warm Bath
Normally, we’re in such a rush, we get in the shower for a few minutes and jump right out.
But for self care Sunday, go big or go home! Draw a nice, warm bath and pour some drops of citrus essential oil in there. (Citrus is known to boost your mood).
While you’re at it, bring the candle in for an even more delightful, spa-like bath. Put some eye masks on, (maybe a glass of wine?) and relax.
7. Get a Manicure

Treat yourself to a manicure on self care Sunday. Having someone else do your nails feels luxurious and always looks better than when you do it yourself!
Go ahead and pamper yourself, you’ve earned it!
8. Play Some Music
Playing some of your favorite music will make self care Sunday all the more fun.
I zone out to the tunes of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. Something about the sound of old jazz takes me to a happy place.
9. Get Your Hair Done

I always find that when my hair is done I feel happier, more confident and don’t even need much makeup.
Just a quick blow out can lift your spirits and make you feel more put together.
10. Buy Yourself Something Pretty
Ok, so maybe not every week… and of course within your budget, but buy yourself a little something that makes you happy.
This could be a new hair accessory, some flowers, a nice smelling body lotion, etc.
Gifting yourself something shows how grateful you are to yourself for all that you do.
11. Stretch

A good morning (or afternoon) stretch loosens your muscles and can reduce any tension you may hold in certain areas.
It’s a great way to unwind and is an essential part of self care Sunday.
12. Eat Something Delicious

Put on an outfit that makes you feel great and go out to your favorite restaurant (or discover a new one).
Have a delicious meal with yourself, and don’t forget to order dessert!
13. Take a Walk in Nature
If the weather permits, step out and get some fresh air. Appreciating nature and how it makes you feel, is a great way to practice self care.
Walking is also a great exercise, so you’re actually achieving two goals with one enjoyable action!
14. Catch Up on a Show
Do you have a favorite show you’ve been meaning to finish, but haven’t had the time to?
Take this day to binge watch your show or maybe even start a new one.
Switching your mind off for a while can have an overall calming effect, so sit back, grab the popcorn and start the show!
15. Rest

For a couple of hours, do nothing.
Take a much needed physical and mental break on self care Sunday. Enjoy a midday nap to recharge.
The Bottom Line
Making time for self care Sunday is not a luxury, it’s absolutely necessary. Show up for it like you would any other important event, because YOU are important.
Give yourself a break once a week to refresh your mind and body. You can even create a self care Sunday that involves some of your best friends, and encourage each other to keep up the practice.
Having a self care Sunday aids in the preservation of our mental health as well. Maintaining our happiness by taking the time to enjoy the simple things, can help us maintain a healthy mind.
